[1987] ‘Dancing for Life’ Raises 1.2 Million for AIDS Care and Research
We are diving into our archival materials and excited to share finds from Pentacle’s Legacy project on #WayBackWednesdays.
On this Wednesday, in celebration of Pride, we are sharing ‘Dancing for Life’. The event where thirteen major dance companies performed on October 5, 1987, raised over 1.2 million for AIDS. Painter and graphic designer, Robert Rauschenberg designed a special poster for the event.
“Pentacle’s Ivan Sygoda was privileged to serve on the Board of Directors of ‘Dancing for Life,’ and Pentacle’s staff, particularly Nancy Umanoff, provided accounting services on a pro bono basis…the staff joined hundreds of colleagues in dance organizations across the country in donating a day’s pay to the cause. The whole dance community has a lot to be proud of!”
