At the end of this month, 10 Hairy Legs will return to New York Live Arts for their fourth home season. Founded by Randy James in 2012, 10 Hairy Legs is a company comprised entirely of male dancers. Their mission is to advance the understanding of the male role in dance through the creation, acquisition and performance of exceptional work. Their repertory features works choreographed by James, as well as existing and new works by significant choreographers.
Their season at NYLA includes three world premieres by Doug Varone, Megan Williams, and Tiffany Mills, as well as the return of David Parker’s iconic work, “Slapstuck.” Composer and Musician Peter Whitehead will perform his commissioned score for Mills’ work at all shows.
Parker shared that working with 10 Hairy Legs has “felt to me like coming home. Randy has cultivated a creative community that prizes generosity, virtuosity, wit, theatrical savvy, and a sense of adventure…I was immediately struck by the technical finesse, rhythmic acuity and comic timing of the cast members.”
Performances run June 23rd- 25th at 7:30pm, and June 26th at 2 pm. A performance on June 25th at 7:30pm is a special Benefit Performance & Reception.
