“We bring step everywhere!” remarks Maxine Lyle, founder and artistic director of Soul Steps, a ‘stepping’ company that celebrated its ten year anniversary in 2015 and continues to educate communities about this African-American traditional rhythmic dance technique.  Lyle is eager to teach all types of communities how to be better communicators and leaders through the history and practice of step.  She speaks not only of the responsibility, but of the enjoyment in educating future performers and dance makers.  “Just as I was inspired by the thrilling magic of Savion Glover, I am now committed, through Soul Steps, to paving a path for other young people to see themselves represented on stage and to encourage them to have the strength to tell their own stories.”  Through encouragement and passion, Lyle broadens the perception of this dance form to create an accessible and lively experience time and time again.

Coming up for Soul Steps is a performance on April 15 in Mamaroneck, NY at the Emelin Theatre as part of “Dance Off The Grid 2016.” This evening of performances by three companies exploring the meaning of community through movement will include a post-performance Question & Answer session with the choreographers.
