Blue13 Dance Company is hard at work on their new work “Fire and Power,” a Bollywood adaptation of Romeo and Juliet and West Side Story. It will premiere August 3 at the Ford Amphitheater in Hollywood, CA.
Bryn Cohn and Dancers and Claire Porter will be showing at the annual WestFest, Claire on April 24/26 and Bryn on April 25/27. The Festival is held in WestBeth, the artist’s colony in New York’s West Village and longtime home of the Merce Cunningham (now Martha Graham) studio.
ClancyWorks Dance Company recently performed their “Three Points” program at Dance Place in Washington DC and Theater Works in Baltimore where they premiered two new works by Artistic Director Adrienne Clancy. They were selected to perform at the Montgomery County Executive’s Awards for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities. Upcoming performances include Montgomery College in Rockville, MD April 26-28 and a site specific performance @ Black Rock Center for the Arts in Germantown, MD on May 23.
Dance Iquail will celebrate their 5th Anniversary season May 10-12 at the Kumble Theater in Brooklyn, NY. The company recently performed at the Dance/UP showcase in Philadelphia in mid April, and has been selected to perform during the Dance/USA conference in June 2013, also in Philadelphia. Artistic Director Iquail Shaheed also just returned from Sophia Bulgaria where he taught during the ‘Dance IT’ intensive and performed in ‘Surfacing’, a new work by fellow artist Christian von Howard.
danceTactics performance group will perform in the Jersey Moves! Festival of Dance on April 27 at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in Newark, NJ.
Duniya Dance & Drum are participating in the Sierra Nevada World Music Festival June 21-23 in Boonville, CA.
KDNY and Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre are preparing for their annual New York Seasons: KDNY at Ailey Citigroup Theater May 2-4 and Amanda Selwyn at NYLA June 27-29.
Robin Becker Dance has been invited to submit an article to Centerpoint Now about their “Into Sunlight” project. Centerpoint Now, a bi-annual publication of the World Council of Peoples for the United Nations (WCPUN) provides in-depth insights on priority issues for the international community, and innovative solutions to address them. “Into Sunlight” was inspired by THEY MARCHED INTO SUNLIGHT, a book on the Vietnam era by Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist David Maraniss on key events and decisions in the war that took place over two days in October 1967.
Moving Pictures (MPNY), a multiple-award-winning, New York media production company, will develop a documentary film about the “Into Sunlight” project, including Robin Becker Dance’s New York City performances at the Florence Gould Hall this October 25-27, 2013.
And just announced, Claire Porter has been named a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellow for Choreography! From the Foundation website: “Guggenheim Fellowships are intended for men and women who have already demonstrated exceptional capacity for productive scholarship or exceptional creative ability in the arts.” Congratulations Claire!
