A strong organizational foundation allows for more time in the studio and on the stage!

Help Desk® supports the professional infrastructure of dance companies and independent choreographers; and works with participants to develop a strong sense of community and empowerment. At the heart of Help Desk® are two equally important relationships: the one between company/artist and mentor and the one between company/artist and the Help Desk® community. The mentor relationship provides participants with personalized strategic planning, guidance and infrastructure support over a sustained period of time. Artists and non-performing partners attend regular meetings sharing challenges and solutions and in the process, build a more supportive arts community.

Participants are paired with a mentor based on an application process that includes submission of written materials and meetings with Pentacle staff. Each participant works with a mentor to articulate the goals of the organization, determine strategies for attaining the goals and guidance in areas of infrastructure support. Regular meetings of all Help Desk® participants and mentors will focus on issues elucidated from the issues being worked on by participants, as well as larger issues that impact the greater community—there is NO set curriculum. Help Desk® is fluid and flexible enough to meet the diverse needs of its participants. The program focuses on helping to create viable and stable infrastructures for lightly institutionalized companies/artists and empowering them to find and create the support they need.

Through Help Desk®, Pentacle is building a national network of dance companies, independent choreographers, and their non-performing champions committed to creating sustainable, innovative administrative systems. Help Desk® provides an on-going forum for the exploration of ways to address infrastructure needs so that dance-makers can spend more time on the creative process and the presentation and performance of their work.
