"Running a dance company is a fairly solitary experience, particularly when trying to juggle the artistic and administrative aspects on a small budget. Usually so much energy and time is spent on the artistic part of the company that there is little left over to work on the administrative side. Working with Help Desk/L.A. has made me feel like I can take a deep, long breath."

"Our participation was powerful for the organization at this moment in our growth. "

"By bringing together the most inspired artists and the most experienced mentors every month, we have an incredible resource of support. The one-on-one exchange with our mentor helps us navigate the complex choices that are a part of being a viable performing arts company today. "

Help Desk/L.A. 2011-2012 Begins July 1st

The third year of Help Desk/L.A programming begins July 1st and Pentacle is excited to welcome its largest and most diverse group of artists and companies to date! A total of 16 companies and independent choreographers are participating, along with ten mentors, all highly experienced and respected arts professionals.

Twelve participants will be paired with a mentor and work one-on-one during the program period to delineate the participants' infrastructure needs,  and to create realistic, achievable goals and strategies to meet those needs. The participants, mentors and program staff meet regularly as a group to explore common interests, goals and challenges of building a strong peer professional cohort within the larger Los Angeles area contemporary dance community.

Four groups who have already participated in the program will pilot a new project, Back Office, as part of the 2011-2012 Help Desk/L.A. program. Back Office addresses head on the critical lack of direct administrative and executive support in small and mid-sized dance organizations. Through this pilot Help Desk provides participants with a "Managing Director" who will work with each participant each week during the program period providing direct infrastructure support and guidance.

Joining L.A. based participants this cycle will be two companies based in San Francisco. This exciting development not only extends the reach of Help Desk's support but also will open doors between the two communities.
