The award-winning Buglisi Dance Theatre unleashes kinetic passion through imaginative multi-disciplinary collaborations that speak to the issues and emotions of our time.
Buglisi Dance Theatre, established in 1994 as Buglisi Foreman Dance, is distinguished by its magnificent dancers, transcendent imagery and wondrously lyrical repertoire. World-class production values and theatrical appeal have won BDT invitations to such prestigious venues as the Kennedy Center, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, The Joyce Theater, Society of Performing Arts in Houston, the Richard B. Fisher Center for the Performing Arts, the Kravis Center in West Palm Beach, Vail International Dance Festival, the State Theater of the Melbourne Festival in Australia and the Prague International Dance Festival.
BDT continues to build the legacy of American cluture through its interactive educational residencies, workshops and outreach programs striving to nurture within the community a personal committment to dance as a lifelong process of discovery.
“Artistic Director Jacqulyn Buglisi…
work
s in images that seduce the eye as much as the imagination, with shapes, luminous textures, and stilled moments in time that offer an adventure in perception. Buglisi is a rarity in today’s world, a woman who delights in the many splendid forms of female being. Probably no woman, other than Graham, has plumbed such emotional depths choreographically.”
- Dance Magazine
“…each dance is an encounter with destiny... Buglisi’s Rain is visually stunning … projections of teeming vegetation and tumescent raindrops interact with dancers…. an impressive double feat of choreography...the overall look is lush but the greatest attraction is how its eight dancers engage in a mysterious real-time ritual. Nothing happens. Everything happens.”
- The New York Times
“There are turbulent, impassioned outpourings of movement on the Joyce stage this week. Each member of BDT performs with urgency, and every phrase through which they move communicates a ferocious belief. Their bodies have sleek, elegant lines, but they can twist and spiral from their cores and writhe on the ground with an intensity that makes it clear that for them, dancing is a means to reveal inner truths and express deep concerns. “
